Metro Region EMS System provides a forum where the public, private and non-profit sectors can create long-term goals for EMS in the ten county metropolitan region, including Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne and Washington counties.

The Metro Region EMS System and its committees proposes, reviews and recommends standards and procedures which coordinates and improves emergency medical services in the metro region and conceives and adopts plans to ensure a coordinated and effective response to multiple casualty incidents and special events regardless of hazards and cause, either natural or man-made. In the last four years, the Metro Region EMS System sponsored research that changed EMS delivery nationwide, making positive improvements in patient outcomes. These research projects resulted in the creation and adoption of new pre-hospital protocols which have greatly improved patient care and outcomes.
